An urushi cake plate by Japanese creative duo Kenichi and Minako Fujii, coloured in an unusual ‘white’ layer of lacquer. The husband and wife team work closely to create this marvellous example of taking craftsmanship to the point of artistry.
To achieve such high quality each much undertake separate elements of the process. Kenichi is responsible for wood turning this form on the lathe with his hand tools, before his wife prepares and applies the Lacquer resin.
